Abstract: Historic western architecture has an unusually ‘thin’ quality, with stylistic façades applied to simple wooden frames. The relatively young age of western towns means archaeological deposits are noticeably ‘thinner’ than are typically found in older settlements. Case Study: Solvent Release Characterization & Remediation

In 2003, chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) associated with dry cleaning operations were discovered in the groundwater beneath a former dry cleaning facility in Las Vegas, NV. Broadbent was contracted to conduct on- and off-site characterization activities. Broadbent prepared and implemented a detailed Site Characterization Work Plan (Work Plan) which included design, construction oversight, development, and soil and groundwater sample collection from seven groundwater monitor wells. Groundwater sample laboratory analytical results indicated the on- and off-site presence of dissolved tetrachloroethylene (PCE), trichloroethylene (TCE), dichloroethylene (DCE) and vinyl chloride (VC) constituent concentrations in groundwater in excess of their respective Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs). Environmental Experience – Confidential Mine

Broadbent has been working on this project since 2006. The company plays a key role in remediation operations at this historic mine site, a CERCLA site listed by the federal EPA on the National Priorities List (Superfund). Broadbent Reno Division Manager, Randy Miller, was the Project Manager from 2006 – 2010, and is the current Project Supervisor. At the site, the client is responsible for capturing and treating acid rock drainage from three seep/spring locations. Site Conceptual Model of Groundwater

Broadbent was contracted by a major petroleum and energy company to provide a third party review and preparation of a Site Conceptual Model for a former aerospace facility in the Central Valley of California. Analysis of historical data indicated that former site operations activities had resulted in contaminant impacts to groundwater. Primary contaminants of concern (COCs included volatile organic compounds (VOCs). On the site, groundwater occurs at approximately 40 feet below ground surface (bgs) and flows towards the east. A soil vapor extraction (SVE) system was installed in 1999 and operated through 2000.
